Day 16

1:10 pm

Lucas' neurological exam remains unchanged. We are waiting for the medications to fully clear from his system. He is otherwise stable (but still critical), with no current plans to make any treatment changes heading into the weekend.

We are still a bit overwhelmed ourselves right now to entertain visitors from out of town, but if Lucas' friends locally want to stop by during the day just for a few minutes, they are welcome as long as his intracranial pressures seem stable. Please understand he remains unresponsive and we do want to avoid too much stimulation.

We are grateful for everyone's continued prayers for Lucas.  Please continue to pray for God's miraculous healing for him. Pray also for strength, courage, and wisdom from above for us. We feel much loved by you all and by God.

God is good.

  2. I have a picture in my mind that I wanted to share with you. About 2 weeks before the accident I saw Lucas in Carrboro. I was driving by and he did not see me. He was on his bike cruising down Main St. wearing his glasses and a hat and a big smile on his face. He looked so cute and so happy. I wish I could print the image because is makes me smile each time I think of it.
    I stopped in the Children's Chapel at the hospital this week to pray for Lucas and requested prayer from the chaplain's via their request book. Continuing to have your family in my thoughts and prayers.

  6. Burnie-
    We continue to pray for Lucas' complete healing. Know that you and your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers daily and will remain there. Although we have never met Lucas we know from the beautiful things that have been written about him here that he shares your caring and compassionate way with others.

  7. Bernie & Tina, I copy/pasted this meditation--ANOTHER STORM by Pastor David Clift from my church email newsletter onto Day 6 mistakenly today. I felt that it fit your current situation to a tee!
    Continuing to pray w/o ceasing that
    God will continue to bless & keep you, ... & bring you Peace!

  8. Burnie, Tina and Spencer, Keeping all of you in my prayers throughout the day and night. I am so burdened for your family and the trials you are experiencing right now. Praying for peace and comfort for you all and healing for Lucas. I work for CallANurse and check this blog several times/day. On a personal note, you told my sisters mother-in-law, Emily Hilton that she has lung cancer, when you saw her a few weeks ago (the week before Lucas's accident). She was so touched because you prayed for/with her. She too is praying for you and your family as she begins the fight of her life. God Bless you all!

  10. Hear my cry, O God;
    Attend to my prayer.
    From the end of the earth I will cry to You.
    When my heart is overwhelmed;
    Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been a shelter for me,
    A strong tower from the enemy.
    I will abide in Your tabernacle forever;
    I will trust in the shelter of Your wings.
    Psalm 61:1-4
